I didn’t expect miracles. I expected maybe a little less discomfort.

Instead, what I got was a complete shift not just in how I felt, but in how I lived.

Here are the five biggest, most lasting changes I’ve experienced since going all-in on Carnivore five years ago.

1. Zero Bloating

This was one of the first things I noticed, even in week one.

When you cut out fermentable carbs and plant fibers, your gut gets a break. For me, that translated into a flatter stomach and digestive peace I didn’t know was possible.

2. Steady, All-Day Energy

No more mid-afternoon crashes. No more dragging myself through mornings. Once I adapted (which took a few weeks), my energy stabilized in a way I’d never experienced before.

Meat-based meals don’t spike and crash your blood sugar. That means no energy rollercoaster just calm, consistent output from sunrise to bedtime.

3. A Calm, Quiet Brain

This one surprised me.

I didn’t expect such a profound mental shift but the clarity, the focus, the evenness of mood? It was real. For the first time in decades, I wasn’t riding waves of anxiety or mental chatter.

Some of that is nutritional (stable blood sugar, steady dopamine). Some is psychological when food stops controlling you, your mind gets a lot quieter.

4. Cravings? What Cravings?

I used to think about food all the time when to eat, what to eat, how much, what I was “allowed.” It was exhausting.

Now? I eat 1-2 meals a day. I feel full. Satisfied. Clear. And food just takes its rightful place in my life important, yes, but not obsessive.

I lost the urge to snack in the evenings. After my last meal of the day, I don’t think about food until the next day.

The combination of high fat, high protein, and nutrient density is deeply satisfying. Your body stops begging for what it’s missing.

5. Confidence in My Body and My Mind

This isn’t just about physical change, though that happened too (better muscle tone, clearer skin, less joint pain, and yes, fat loss).

This is about self-trust. For the first time in my adult life, I feel like I have a sustainable way of eating that supports my goals, my values, and my biology.

I’m not trying to hack my health. I’m living in alignment with it.

Final Thought

This way of eating didn’t just change my diet. It changed my relationship with myself.

And that’s what Sweet Mistakes is really about. Not chasing perfection but finally feeling at peace.

Tomorrow, I’ll tackle the common myths about Carnivore and what’s actually backed by experience and evidence.

See you then.

—

Have you noticed any surprising changes since adjusting your diet even small ones? I’d love to hear about them in the comments.

Thanks for reading Sweet Mistakes! So today, let’s strip it down to the basics and answer the question:

Thanks for reading Sweet Mistakes! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work.

What is the Carnivore diet?

The Short Answer

The Carnivore diet is a way of eating that focuses entirely on animal-based foods; typically fatty meats, eggs, and sometimes dairy; while eliminating all plant foods.

It’s built on the idea that animal foods provide complete, bioavailable nutrition and that many people’s health issues are aggravated (or even caused) by plant compounds, processed carbs, and modern food engineering.

The Why Behind It

Most people come to Carnivore because they’re:

Dealing with chronic inflammation, pain, or autoimmune issues

Struggling with weight, blood sugar, or mental health

Burned out by diets that never feel satisfying

Seeking simplicity, satiety, and stability

In short: people are tired of overthinking food. Carnivore offers a radical reset; one that strips away the noise and gets back to nutritional basics.

What You Can Eat

While there’s some variation, most Carnivore diets include:

Beef, lamb, pork, poultry (hamburger patties and pork are my favorites)

Organs (liver, kidney, etc.) if desired (small portions is recommended)

Eggs (the true superfood)

Salt (I supplement electrolytes)

Water

Optional: butter, cheese (for those who tolerate dairy)

Some people also include seafood, bone broth, or even raw dairy and honey but those are individual choices, not required. (I disagree with honey, for me, this is not carnivore, anything that is going to trigger an insulin spike, is not part of my diet)

What You Don’t Eat

The list is simple but strict:

No vegetables or fruits

No grains or legumes

No nuts or seeds

No sugars or processed carbs

No oils from plants (like canola or soy)

It sounds intense and it is. But for many, this radical simplicity is exactly what makes it work. It’s only intense because we have been conditioned in modern society that we have to eat a certain way. Once you are eating carnivore for a few months, you will agree, its a very easy diet to follow. (perhaps boring to some)

Is It All or Nothing?

Not necessarily. Some people start with a “strict” approach for 30–90 days (meat, salt, water only), then slowly reintroduce foods to test what they tolerate.

Others adopt a more “animal-based” lifestyle that includes small amounts of fruit, raw honey, or dairy.

What matters most is intent: removing triggers, reclaiming satiety, and healing from the inside out.

Is It Safe?

We’ll dive into this more soon, especially for folks in their 40s, 50s, and 60s. But the short answer is: for most people, yes.

Animal foods are incredibly nutrient-dense. And for those dealing with chronic issues, Carnivore can be a powerful intervention. It’s not for everyone, but it’s more grounded (and more historically human) than most assume.

Final Thoughts

If you’re still wrapping your head around this, that’s good. That means you’re thoughtful. Curious. Willing to challenge assumptions.

You don’t have to be convinced. You just have to be open.

Tomorrow, I’ll share exactly how my body changed after starting Carnivore, and what I noticed first.

Stick around, we’re just getting started.

—

What’s the biggest question or concern you have about the Carnivore diet? Drop it below and I’ll work it into a future post.

Thanks for reading Sweet Mistakes! Keto. Mediterranean. Plant-based. Intermittent fasting. You name it, I gave it a fair shot. Some worked for a while. Most felt like hard work. None felt like home.

Thanks for reading Sweet Mistakes! I felt like I should know better. I was doing all the “right” things. But my body was telling me a different story. And to be very honest, I was scared.

The Turning Point

I discovered the Carnivore diet through social media.

At first, I thought it was insane. Only meat? No fiber? No greens? Surely that was just another extreme fad.

But the more I looked into it, the more intrigued I became. People were healing autoimmune conditions, reversing anxiety, losing weight without hunger, and here’s what caught me, carnivore diet enjoyers were completely changing their relationship with food.

I decided to try it for 30 days. Just to see.

That was over five years ago.

Why It Stuck

What surprised me most wasn’t just how good I felt. It was how easy it became. No more food rules. No more decision fatigue. No more “what am I craving?” games.

Just eat meat. Eat until full. Live your life.

I had:

Stable energy all day (incredible energy gains)

No bloating or digestive drama (there is a transition period but there are easy solutions to every hurdle)

Better sleep and clearer skin

Less anxiety and brain fog

A renewed relationship with hunger and satiety

And this is big, I finally stopped thinking about food all the time.

But It Wasn’t Magic

Let me be clear: Carnivore isn’t a cure-all, and it isn’t effortless. There were adjustments. I had to relearn what true hunger felt like. I had to face my emotional attachments to food. I had to explain myself at dinner parties more than once.

But for the first time, the effort felt aligned with the results.

This wasn’t a diet. This was a return to sanity.

The Bottom Line

I don’t share this to convince you. I share it because I know what it feels like to be stuck in that cycle of trying, tweaking, and still not feeling your best.

Carnivore broke that cycle for me.

It might do the same for you or not. But if you’re curious, skeptical, or standing where I stood five years ago, Sweet Mistakes is a place to explore that journey with open eyes and honest stories.

Tomorrow, we’ll break down what the Carnivore diet actually is and what it isn’t.

For now, just know this: it’s okay to start over. Even if you’ve tried everything. Especially if you’ve tried everything.

See you tomorrow.

—

What diets or strategies have you tried in the past and what did or didn’t work for you?
